Large plan to be converted into pdf???

  1. Dear all,

I have a large plan (created in Map 5 with TerraFirma and Key Systems ZVI
software) which contains raster data (which has had to be made transparent
to see the information underneath). The drawing is a complex Zones of Visual
Impact drawing, so there is solid hatch, text boxes, notations, symbols and
of course the raster plan information (both DTM data and the image tiles).

I need to convert the drawing into PDF so it can be included on a CD to go
for public distribution. Normally the Acrobat Distiller works fine, but it
seems that the amount of objects in my drawing means it takes too long for
the process to complete. Therefore I need to find an alternative method.

I have tried to wblock the whole drawing, but this disrupts my draw order
settings and will require me to reset them again (a labourious task). The
same thing happens if I insert the original drawing into a new drawing (but
also with the result that objects on the layout are lost).

To export the Map 5 drawing as a bitmap leaves me with poor quality. As far
as I know there is no way to increase the quality. Exporting as an EPS
doesn't give me anything other than a grey box saying 'AutoCAD PS out'. As a
WMF I can't get the layout and the model space together.

We also have CorelDraw11 and CorelPhotoPaint11 - so I'm wondering if they
can be used as go between software?

Any suggestions will be much appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Natasha :)

"Takes too long to complete"? But ... *does* it complete? If so, that may
still be your best option. Going through additional processes isn't likely
to reduce the number of vectors that need to be processed to produce a PDF.

  3. Yeah, I fear as much. Too long to complete means over an hour... I couldn't
let it carry on as I have to do other things on the pc... there are another
12 drawings to be converted; of which 7 are CorelDraw and the rest are also
AutoCAD in the same style as the one I am trying to do now.

Problem is it needs to have been sent out yesterday (as usual)! I think I'll
try leaving it overnight. But I don't have 6 nights to do all the converting
    in!!

    Thanks though for your input.
