Can anyone recommend a large format scanner? What brands, what do they
cost, etc. It will be used for scanning color rendered landscape drawings
to be "photoshopped" and reprinted on glossy media and some b/w or grayscale
drawings. The largest sheet size we would scan would be a 30x42.

Quickly looking on the HP website I saw one for 18K and a multifunction
about 21K. Is there something for a lot less?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

Colortrac (www.colortrac.com) make the best large format scanners according
to our testing of the various makes. You should be able to get one with a
36" or 42" scanning width for a lot less than 18K.

Pricing from one of their distributor's web site
    (http://www.scantopia.com/Scanner/Action/Flatbed.htm)

    Colortrac FB24120 : $ 59,250 (the model on colortrac's home page)
    or Colortrac 4260e $ 18,500.

Expensive equipment, no matter who makes it.

    Bryan,

I took a closer look at the web site link I posted, and there seems to
be quite a difference between the manufacturer's "retail" prices and the
dealer's price list. Be sure to shop around - I'm sure the same
situation exists with the HP price and their dealer network. Large
format scanning is something we are interested in, but the business case
(justification for purchase) isn't there due to the price of the
    equipment.
