Large Autocad File????

Hi,

We are using Autocad 2002 and 2005 in our office. For some strange
reason, the file of the drawing is over 3MB in size even when you erase
and purge everything in it. I have detach all xref, image clip,Erase
All, wblock it and only have 0 layer with nothing in it. This is
happening with drawings that were originally created by another
consultant.
Anyone have any idea what's wrong with this file?

Delete all the Named Layer Filters. Make sure ISAVEPERCENT is set to 0
(zero).

 

If the drawing was created in 2005 and someone wanted to open it in
2002 it would had to been saved "as" an AutoCAD 2000 file. This
operation will most times increase the file size by 2 or 3 times the
size of the original 2005 version.
For AutoCAD 2004 Autodesk rewrote the DWG file format to be smaller and
more efficient. As a result when any drawing is saved to an earlier
version it increases in file size dramatically.

That was it. I deleted all Named Layer Filters. I did some reseach and
downloaded the "layerfiltersdelete" lisp file to avoid the tedious
work.

I still can't find figure out the use of the Named Layer Filters. What
was Autodesk intent?

 

For me the intent is pretty obvious. To provide a way to save layer
filters. We use them all the time and have several set up in our
template drawings.

What could have used some more thought was that fact that they desgned
it so that *all* NLF were carried from drawing to drawing like a virus.

This problem was fixed 2 releases ago (2005).

 

some costumers use specials (arx) tools for build drawings, I know some
one how make files with 2 lines and 3 blocs and make ...24Mb files !!
where is a bug somewhere ask to the developper !
