Miscrosoft will release a new 64-bit XP operating system fairly soon.
It will certainly have its problems at first, but eventually that should
improve performance significantly by increasing the amount of available
    RAM space.

That might be a better route than adding a ton of UNIX hardware and
    having a hybrid OS/net environment.

HP-UX for one runs just dandy on the IA-64 CPU. Others
probably do as well. Often the issue may be how many
CPUs you want in the box <g>.
That's all been out a long time.
MS Stuff is usually bloatware ... and late. Recall how
long it took them to get to 32 bit? The 80386 CPU was
    32 bit IIRC .....

Microsoft is holding engineering applications "back in time". The
Windows lot of OSs are crud, and are certainly limiting in the hardware
    they can utilize.

    MS has plainly NOT delivered.

It is time again for Unix, Linux, and every engineer knows it.

I would have nothing against MS if they just kept up, but that is not
    the case.

Anyone know how the RISC vs. CISC debate is
    turning out?
