At work we use AutoCad LT 2002. I am thinking of purchasing a
Laptop(for various reasons) but would like to finish occasional
drawings while I am on the road or at home.

Anyone out there have advice on what size hard drive and procesor
would be suitable for this? Any additional info is appreciated.

    Thanks

  2. I'd be focusing more on the RAM, the screen size and video card.
From experience, try to get yourself a Numpad.

Currently I am using a Dell inspiron 8200 (it's 2 years old) and acad works
just fine on it. Actually I have '02, '04 (LDD) and '05 loaded on it and a
load of other programs. It has a 15" screen with 32 meg of video, 256 meg
of ram, 40 gig HD and the usual DVD/CDRW, network and modem. The CPU is an
intel mobile p4 at 1.7gig. This would be about the minimum I would get.
Personally, I would go with more ram and if you do a lot of rendering you
might want to up the video memory. As for storage, 40 gig should do you
fine 'cause drawing files and the like would be stored on a CD.

AutoCAD is not a particularly demanding application. Almost anything
with enough RAM will do fine. My Toshiba Tecra 8100 (three years old)
with 256MB will fly through DWG files. Other more demanding CAD
applications like SolidWorks and Pro/E are a different story. Get
yourself a second-hand POS and save some money.
