Has anyone here had any experience with buying Dell Certified
Refurbished systems? I am a frugal individual.............. some would even
say cheap. I am interested in getting the most for my dollar. I am
hesitant however, to buy a refurbished computer. Obviously the prices
are good but how is the quality of the computer? Dell claims they are
as close to new as you can get without paying new price. Any input is
    appreciated.

We have a recertified M60 that we pass around the department. I was not
able to tell that it was not brand new when it arrived. I understand the HD
failed a few months later, but that can happen to new systems also. It has
been solid since then. I guess this is more than two years ago now, but it
    doesn't get everyday use.

Are you looking for laptop or desktop. If laptop check with
www.thisoldstore.com they 'sometimes' have new Dell laptops for $800 - $1000
off Dell's price. I bought my m90 from them and I highly recommend them.

I bought my M20 off ebay as a new item from some powerseller. It was
new ! Came fully boxed etc and with DELL three year 24 service - but
half the price of the DELL online price.

Seems sometimes big corporates indicate what they want and then back
down before buying so DELL off load onto to ebay , so as not to
distort their market. Not sure how true that was , but DELL excepted
my online registration and even sent me a postcard welcoming me to the
    DELL fraternity :)

Never had to use the warrenty as its never gone wrong - even after
everything the SW installation & activation service can throw at it !!

I have a Dell Precision 390 as my main home workstation and an M65
Laptop. Both were purchased off the Dell refurb site.
I have never had a problem with the 390. It has a Core 2 Duo e6700
(2.66GHz) a Quadro FX3500 and 2 gigs of RAM running XP sp2. Runs
SolidWorks 2006 and 2007 just great. I have had it since October of
last year. It cost me $1600 then, right after the core 2 duo came out.
The M65 came with a flakey video card and would get caught in an
inifinite loop looking for a lost .dll. After a bit of hassle with
Dell tech support in Panama I got my claim pushed up to a US call
center. They replaced the entire laptop with a new one, upgraded the
screen and processor and doubled the RAM. Now I have an M65 with a
T7600 processor (2.33GHz) a WUXGA screen and 4 gigs of RAM!
I have been buying from the Dell refurb site for 5 years. The problem
with the M65 was the first one I have ever had. With the way Dell
corrected the problem I have no room to compalin and would highly
recomend them. My old workstation and laptop from 4 and 5 years ago
both came from the refurb site and served a useful life for me with no
problems, my children use them still.
    That is my perspective.

A laptop is exactly what I would like. I have been looking at the
M90's. I just need to take the plunge and go for it.
