is 2008 stable yet?

Discussion in 'SolidWorks' started by RaceBikesOrWork, Mar 28, 2008.

  1. The complaints and bugs have evaporated, I don't even see any bug
    reports on Lombard's site.

Is is safe to make the jump yet? They burned me real good with SW2007.

Actually 2008 was 'stable' from day one. We have a lot fewer crashes than
what we had with 2007. Lombard's blog reported more on user interface
    complaints than stability issues. IMHO

We're running the 64 bit version here and I think it's getting worse
    with each Service Pack.

I expect that an advanced form of an MRI scan would be interesting.
    http://www.schizophrenia.com/research/schiz.brain.htm
    [
UCLA brain researchers using a powerful new technique have created the first
images showing the devastating impact of schizophrenia on the brain. The
findings, published in the Sept. 25 issue of the Proceedings of the National
Academy of Sciences*, show how a dynamic wave of tissue loss engulfs the brains
of schizophrenic patients in their teen-age years.

The findings may have key diagnostic implications. Aided by a better
understanding of how psychosis develops, researchers can detect aberrant loss
early and treat patients as early as possible. Future medications might fight
the rapid loss of brain tissue, and their effectiveness could be assessed using
    the imaging technique.

"This is the first study to visualize how schizophrenia develops in the brain,"
said Paul Thompson, an assistant professor of neurology at the UCLA School of
Medicine and the study's chief investigator. "Scientists have been perplexed
about how schizophrenia progresses and whether there are any physical changes in
the brain. We were stunned to see a spreading wave of tissue loss that began in
a small region of the brain. It moved across the brain like a forest fire,
destroying more tissue as the disease progressed."
    ]

It seems that brain loss exists & progreses in many cases of schizophrenia
and/or psychosis. Starts at the back of the brain & moves forwards over
    several years IIRC.
Perhaps it's akin to a piron disease such as Kuru or a bit like
Alzheimer's. I wonder if it's contagious or transmissible.
And if one listens while shaking I'd wager his head rattles
much like a gourd with a dried pea inside.
Probably all the little voices & delusions fit in the remaining
    (& growing) empty space.

Might even explain why he had to leave school & cannot comprehend
even simple shop math or gets kicked out of any trade school he's tried
    on day one.

    Also, consider:
    [
In the mental health field, schizophasia, commonly referred to as word salad
(see "word salad" for other meanings), is used to describe the symptom of
confused, and often repetitious, language that is symptomatic of various mental
illnesses. It is usually associated with a manic presentation and other symptoms
of serious mental illnesses, such as psychoses, including schizophrenia. It
describes the apparently confused usage of words with no apparent meaning or
relationship attached to them. In this context, it is considered to be a symptom
of a formal thought disorder. In some cases schizophasia can be a sign of
    asymptomatic schizophrenia ....

And we wondered why he's so confused & loves buzzwords & being so
    utterly clueless ....

I would say no to stability. Some people seem to be having good luck,
but I am not one of them. Particularly in assemblies there seems to be
a lot of problems. In my case I have had to completely remate large
assemblies more than once. SW seems to just decide to redo things on
    it's own.

Then there are the numerous crashes, some with an automatic restart
and some where SW just dissappears without a whimper.

I had a big issue with drawings where views didn't align properly and
sent that one in. I haven't heard of any answers to it yet. Most of
the stuff that happens just happens with no rhyme or reason and what
can't be documented apparently can't be fixed.

I can't say how many hours I have lost just to these two things. This
is on a machine that was built up from scratch in January with just
enough installed to run SW. I would have to say that I would have
been better off with 2006 or 2004.

I'll stick with 2006 until at least SWks 2008 SP5. I'll probably have
to upgrade then because a toolmaker insists he has to use it because
"my customers do". I'll keep 2006 around as a backup for years.

I just don't have the time to waste dealing with workarounds & time
wasted. I'ld love to use some of the neat new features, but not as
long as they are buggy new features. Hence, I wind up upgrading late,
and my VAR of course wants to charge me more $s for waiting until most
    of the bugs are out.

I just wish there were a more practical way for SolidWorks to do
debugging in house & with its special testers and systems, so for my
$2k/year then I would get the cleanest possible applications.

I just wished to clarify that I have thrown my meds away (again) and
that Rottenluv has crossed her legs (again). These events tend to
    make me very irritable.

"a sad existence" indeed, indeed. Such a moment of clarity in an
    otherwise obfuscated person.

When you are ignored and have to piece together your own prior posts
to reply to you have flipped.

I lead "a sad existence" indeed, indeed. I have never had a moment of clarity.
    Now it's correct, Bo.

Let's examine why you have your head shoved up your ass.

Instead of focusing on what the major problem with SolidWorks is (and
many other solid modelers) you'd rather spend your time whining about
    Microsoft.

What you need is a moment of clarity in your otherwise totally
    obfuscated life.

Try reading this link again and again till you understand what the
    major problem really is.

Typical, Bo. Ignore the real problem and spend your time on total
    bullshit.

Don't mind me Bo as I'm up to my usual tricks of attempting to bring
credit to myself and to discredit someone else. It is a pathetic
existance, but without my meds and sex, it is all I've got.
