Inventor Solidworks Comparison

Discussion in 'SolidWorks' started by G. De Angelis, Feb 11, 2006.

  1. Has anyone read the "Technical Comparison between Inventor and
    Solidworks"?
It is called the "Autodesk Whitepaper". I don't remember having read a
more blatantly biased "Technical Comparison". Visions of the last
Presidential Election immediately came to mind, with all the "in your
face" Political Rhetoric. I was kind of surprised, as I always
visualized Autodesk as a Class Act organization . It would seem that
they were determined to get a foothold on the 3-D Market Share at all
costs. It would also appear that they still are, as I have heard of a
very recent similar article, or advertisement of sorts at one of the
    more recent major Symposiums.
Whether all the technical points that they make have validity or not,
and I think that many of them do, I believe that to some of us, their
image is somewhat tarnished by the way the message is conveyed, and
some of the rather caustic language is used.
This is not a hastily prepared document, but rather one of substantial
technical detail, and borne of much thought, and effort, extremely well
done. This particular one goes back to version 5 of Inventor.
I have it in the PDF format, if this arouses anyone's curiosity,
    check out this link.

The whitepaper is for Inventor 5 vs SW 2001. I think the Whitepaper was
exposed on this newsgroup long ago.

Currently Inventor is on Release 10 and SW is on 2006. Five releases
from this whitepaper for Inventor and five releases away for SW2006.

In the last 3 months I have run across the following Autodesk produced
    material or events:

    ADSK "SolidWorks Quality" survey website
ADSK Showed up to SWW for 3 days with a wave machine, masqurading it as
    a SW sponsored offsite event.
ADSK Anti-SolidWorks advertisements (SW losese you DWG data) that would
    give many politian pause.
ADSK put up posters at AU claiming to knockdown SolidWorks in a boxing
    match....
ADSK series of new white papers making false claims on SW technical
abilities ("SW has no section view?")
    ADSK
    http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/item?siteID=123112&id=5417320
(even ADSK Inventor website talks about SolidWorks)

Certainly doesn't seem like the behavior of a leader to me.
