    Please help.

I have generated a whole mess of library blocks that are apx. 500k
despite having almost nothing in them.
My attempts at fixing this problem include:
    - Running purge & audit (2000i & 2004)
    - Running recover
    - isavepercent to 0
    - wblock entire drawing
    - wblock only the selected entities
    - Manusoft SuperPurge (all)& Hard purge every entity I could think of
    - Erase * (minus my entities)
    - copy clip entities out to a new drawing

The result is always the same even if I only copy clip out 1 line to a
new clean drawing the 500k comes with the 1 line!
    I'm out of ideas.
Unfortunately for me I didn't notice the problem until I had copied
    this problem into 20-30 drawings.

    Any thoughts appreciated.
    Thanks

  2. FWIW, if you want to send me one of them I'll take a look at it and see if I
    can come up with anything.

I once had an autocad drawing that contained graphic files(s) that
were no longer shown in the dialogue box however were still embedded
    within the drawing.

The only way I could get rid of them was to load the drawing into
intellicad. This allowed me to delete them where AutoCAD would not
because it had lost the register.

Try downloadijng an evaluation copy of intelliCAD from cadopia.com and
    have a play.

It's just recovered another drawing that AutoCAD would only load 34%
of for one of my cad monkeys. After an hour of doing what you have
done we established there was a problem with the hatching.

After deleting the hatching in IntelliCAD we could then load the
drawing back into AutoCAD....... Go Figure....

The amount of times I've used IntelliCAD to fix AutoCAD drawings
it has more than paid for itself.

Thanks for the tip on using Intellicad. I opened the drawing in
intellicad but was not able to find anything wrong or that I could
delete. Maybe I did not know where to look.

I had not realized haw similiar intellicad is to autocad. It even let
me type in some lisp commands.

    Thanks again.

    Just open the drawing.

    ZOOM EXTENS
ERASE ALL REMOVE CROSSING (pick everything you see)

    That's it. :)

There is one other cause, which I've not seen mentioned yet. I ran
into a situation where AutoCAD was not getting rid of the old display
list (a saved version of the display used to speed up redraws of the
    screen)

Once this started happening on my drawing, the only way to reduce
the file size was to purge all from MODEL SPACE (doing it in
paperspace didn't work) furthermore, if there was nothing to purge, it
was important to create something. I just drew a square, and made it
into a block called TEMP. Then when I implemented the purge all
sequence, the file size shrank dramatically.

However, it would continue to grow with each save, so the process
    had to be repeated regularly.

Thanks for the advice. This did not work though.
This file has me beat. I have recreated the blocks using
    very clean drawings.
