inductance value estimation

Discussion in 'Cadence' started by Karthik Sundararaman, Nov 4, 2003.

  1. Hi,
I have done a layout of an inductor using metal1 and poly overlapping
each other and the layout is done in a spiral form. I got to know that
inductors could be layout like this from a paper.I have two questions.
Is this procedure correct. If not could someone suggest a method and
also how do I measure the value of the inductor.
    Thanks

  2. First of all there is really no point using poly for making a inductor - too
big parasitic resistance and too big parasitic capacitance towards the
substrate. The best is to use the highest metal available. I do not believe
that you have just one level of metal (the process should be really old if
    this is the case...)

For the inductor ... well I guess there are several ways to do it... one of
them is to use ASITIC to make the inductor and get the inductance and the
other values for the inductor model and then to export it to Cadence. Of
course this is not really a professional approach, but it works.

Another thing you may do is to use some simplified formula.
