We just started using Solidworks. Our manufacturing system has about
50,000 part numbers in it. Is it possible to import the part numbers and
descriptions into Solidworks for use when building assemblies. None of
us are thrilled with the prospect of typing in all these descriptions
when we use them to build an assembly.

Also, if it is possible, what are the steps. We are using the most
    current version of Solidworks.

    Tom,

In the context of your manufacturing system what do you mean by the
    term "part numbers".

Are these company ID numbers (each component in your company gets its
own "company" number) or are they vendor numbers?

    Len,

My term "part number" refers to a unique number identifying an item
sitting in a warehouse. This could be a purchased item or an assembly
    manufactured by us.

A competent C or VB programmer would make very short work of this.
    Hire one on contract.

Not sure what you are asking here Tom. Are you saying you want to get
an existing number from your database whenever you model that specific
part in SolidWorks? OR, are you wanting to assign a random number (or
predefined?) to a library of 50000 parts you have converted to
    SolidWorks?

Are your existing part numbers in a database? Excel Spreadsheet? More
    info please.
