importing from autocad

Discussion in 'SolidWorks' started by Mathew Birtch, Mar 5, 2004.

  1. I realise I have asked many questions all at once, but they all came up at
    once....

I tried to insert an AutoCAD file into solidworks and it says that the file
is invalid or incomplete? what would make it do that?

    thanks

What are you trying to do? Make a Drawing in SolidWorks, or make a Part
in SolidWorks? What is probably best is to Open the AutoCAD drawing,
not insert it. In the dialog boxes that are presented upon Opening an
ACAD drawing you will have the choice to create a Drawing or a Part. If
you're trying to make a Part, first make an AutoCAD block out of JUST
the views that you want to pull in as sketches, and refer to the Help
    regarding 2D to 3D conversion.

  3. It's most likely a messed up acad drawing.

If you have another program or acad, try and open it and see if it still
is messed up or.. open it in acad and export it as a dxf or another acad
    version.
