I am working on a beading pattern book and I am looking for advice on
how to get the 3 d effect and different gradients for the beads to
look real., such as shinny, flat, opquec, opal, clear colored, silver
lined. round, rectangle, hex in shape also. I am currently using
word , paint draw. Does anyone have a better idea.

I reckon you will need something like Adobe Photoshop, or Paintshop Pro,
to achieve the effects you need.

Learning curve to be dealt with as well, I'm afraid!

....or create beads as 3D Solids in AutoCAD, apply appropriate materials,
reflectivity, etc., then arrange them in the desired patterns, and RENDER.

Still a pretty steep learning curve, though.
