The best forum I have found for this is the SolidWorks website. I've
seen others, but the SW site has the most people replying on a daily
    basis.

  5. Of course the only problem is that you must have an active subscription.

Not any more. All you need is a login name and password. No active
    subscription is needed.

This is from the FAQ on SW forum section.
"Full Discussion Forum access requires a login to the Customer Portal,
an active Subscription Service contract is not required for full access."

You have not needed an active subscription for ages on the SW forum.
When they went to the new forum they instituted that policy for
probably a month at most. SW Hq realized the errors of their ways and
the forum is open to all ever since.

    Cheers,

  8. Anna,
I was excited to see what you posted, but regret to say that,at least
when I tried it just now, it is seems to be not true.

Primed by this thread, just a few minutes ago I tried to create an
account that I could use off hours to access the SWx forum.
When asked, I chose the option to not enter a SolidWorks Subscription
    number.
I was able to develop a login
    -BUT-
it turns out that login locks out of most of the good stuff (like the
knowledge base and the forums) To be fair, I did not try to enter an
inactive SolidWorks subscription number so I can't vouch for your
claim one way or the other (because I don't have an inactive
    solidworks account number handy).

I did go back to the site to check , and sure enough the forum and
knowledge base have the dreaded gold masterlock next to them, and at
the top there is a gold masterlock that says "Active subscription
service contract required for full access.".

Anna, I can only tell you what I saw tonight. Maybe it was a wierd
    night. I hope it was.

P.S. I have not been able to participate in the SolidWorks forums
because, when I try to develop a login with my active subsciption
number, it says that my email will (<paraphrase>) "become the primary
source for all SolidWorks subsciption informatation". I cannot hijack
my companies IT pro's pipeline to Solidworks just so I can participate
    in the forum.
    Is that message B.S.?
Are there multiple people from the same company using the forum
successfully and not hijacking the important SolidWorks subscription
information from the IT guys that need it?
I can't click that button until I know for sure.

    Ed,

I just created an account not tied to a serial number. I have access
to the forums. If you hit the latest topics list in the right side
bar, you see all the latest posts. You can then use the sidebar sub-
forum list on the lower left to access the sub-forums.

Looks like complete access to the forums to me. You need to be more
curious and poke all the links that are avialable to you on the forum
    entry page..... :)

    Cheers,

    Anna

  10. I just created an account not tied to a serial number.  I have access
Anna, Thanks for your response, and I especially enjoy the smiley :)
It is good to interact with someone that is genuinely interested in
helping out other folks in a cordial fashion, as you have proved over
    and over..
I am usually curious and did look around :), but couldn't see what you
    saw.
Here is my screen after logging in without a support contract:
    http://www.edeaton.com/SWx_files/SWx-login.jpg
In that screenshot you can see all the master-locks and the imposing
mesages about the requirement for "active service contact required for
full access" at both the top and bottom of the page.
And I have to admit that I am just at a loss to find the "latest
topics list in the right side bar" or the "sidebar sub-forum on the
left" that you mention in your post.
I can see something similar to what you mention at https://forum.solidworks..com/
but cannot access anything with a login that is not tied to a serial
    number.

    Out of curiosity...
when you created a new account not tied to a serial number, did you do
it on a computer that you used for an account that WAS tied to a
serial number? My working theory is that the difference in our
    results is due to cookies.

I apreciate your interest in this.
With great respect and much thanks for responding,
    Ed
