Barely related to AutoCAD, I know, but I do go where I know I will find an
    answer. So...
With the HP printers that use a 2 cartridge system, and you can replace the
black (K) cartride with a CMK cartridge, resulting in 6 color photo
printing, can anyone comment on how well the cartidges do if you pull them
back out partially used. I.e., I put the 6 color cartridge in, print 4 or 5
things, put the black one back in and use the printer as a 4 color printer
for 3 months, will that CMK cartridge still be good, and I can switch them
out again and print some more 6 color stuff, or does the print head dry up
and the cartridge is dead, after being stored out of the printer for a
    while?

    Thanks for any info,
    Gordon

Being that the plotter is configured for a 4 color system, I doubt very much
that putting in a CMK cartridge into the K slot is going to do any good.
That slot is configured for only one color, so putting a three color
cartridge is just going to be a waste of ink.

I am refering to the HP printers that are designed to have the K cartridge
replaced with a CMK cartidge. In my case, the PSC-1350 that is also a color
copier/scanner as well as 4/6 color printer. Sweet device for under $100! I
just don't know how long the partially used cartridge can be stored out of
the printer before it becomes useless. I don't do much 6 color printing, and
I don't want to do a few pages, then switch back to 4 color, only to have to
throw away a half full 6 color cartridge in a month because it has dried
    out.

    Best,
    Gordon

In that case, the shelf life of a partially used cartridge isn't very long.
It could be as little as 8 weeks, maybe a little longer. I doubt very much
it would last over 3 months of non-use.
