HP LaserJet 5100 creating pc3

Discussion in 'AutoCAD' started by Mark Dubbelaar, Oct 1, 2004.

  1. hi,

we've just installed a HP LaserJet 5100 on the network, and i'm currently
trying to update the page setups, but for some reason i cannot create a pc3
file from the network printer... everytime i click on the HP LaserJet
5100.pc3 file a dialog box pops up 'Update PC3 file with new printer' and
asks me to select an available printer because the device for the pc3 file
cannot be found... after selecting the HP laserjet printer from the list and
OKing the same dialog pops up again... the only way to stop it is by
cancelling, which sometimes causes autocad to crash

any help / suggestions would be great

    cheers

  2. sorry, maybe i should re-word it... i cannot create a working pc3 file, as
everytime i click on the HP laserjet .... .pc3 file the 'select a device...'
dialog shows up, i've also tried deleting the 'non working' hp laserjet pc3
file and the associated pmp file, but still have the same results

  3. i've just plotted a drawing using the network printer (as opposed to the pc3
file) and it does work, i then tried another plot and like you suggested
click on the properties... i clicked OK without changing any settings at all
and i got a "default media size is invalid" dialog, followed by a "Invalid
I/O type or port name. I/O is now configured to plot to a port of the
default type of FILE"... i've never seen these dialogs before is this whats
    causing the problem???

  5. dean,

the pc3 files are located on the server, i have read/write access to
everything, but i also keep a copy on my local C. when i change the printer
file desciption and parameters paths under options -> files tab and again
try and create the pc3 file from scratch, the same thing happens, i can't
    get a working pc3 file.

the pmp files are located in a folder under the plotter folder (same
    directory structure as autocad uses's)

i think the problem could actually be a driver one.... i had a search on the
discussion group for "default media size is invalid" and one post suggested
getting the latest HP driver... i'll let you know if this works or not

    thanks for you help

    cheers

  6. thanks for your help dean, i've fixed the problem.... in the printer
properties (through windows, not autocad) theres an option to specify paper
sizes to suit trays in the printer... after changing these to be unspecified
    everything works

    thanks again

    cheers
