HP 1050c Plus & network

I'm having trouble connecting an HP1050c plus to a network using tcp/ip
    connections.

I have a 3 GHz Dell with Windows XP. The plotter has been used for ~2
years using a parallel port. Due to adding a new drafter, I want to put
the plotter on the network. I entered the ip address and information to
the hp front panel, then added the address to my computer. I connected
the computer and plotter to the network using a router, since I only
have one connection in my office. The computer sees the plotter, but
will not plot to it. I have connected the plotter directly to a
different network connection to remove the router, but it still did not
    plot.

I have tried test plots using other programs (autocad, notepad, word),
and the information seems to be disappearing into the ether between the
router and the plotter. I have contacted HP. HP can see the plotter
when given the ip address and can pull the gateway information. HP
feels that the network card is good, and the data is entered in the
plotter correctly, therefore, it's not their problem.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

  2. What do you mean with "the computer sees the plotter"? Can you ping its ip
address? Can you access its controller with your Internet browser? (I mean
by entering its ip adress as the url). Did you create a proper port for it ?
    (An lpr port is fine).

  3. Make sure that the plotter has a fixed adress, like 192.168.1.150
Try to ping the plotter, in windows use: start-execute-command, type ping
    192.168.1.150
You should get a reasonable answer time.
    If so, connection is good.

Check your plotter setup under printers.
In properties, ports there should be a Standard TCP/IP port marked for the
    plotter with the correct address.
If not use the setup disk from the plotter or add the port manually.

    Hope this helps.

Yes, I can ping the plotter and get a response time that is reasonable. Yes I
can access the controller with the internet browser and see the data that was
entered for the ip address and gateway address. Yes, I created a tcp/ip port
in the printer control panel for the ip address.

When I send a plot, the computer processes the plot, but it is never recieved at
    the plotter and never printed.

Also be sure you're not sending out a model space plot from an un-patched
LDT or Map 2005 - those have trouble with model space plots without going
    through some changes...

  6. Maybe you already did, but you could try a direct network connection, using
a UTP crosscable between the network card in the pc and the plotter (if you
want to try this, use a fixed ip address on the pc), just to exclude the
possibility that it is something in your network. I also assume that you
are using the same driver as you did before on the parallel port, so the
plotter gets (should get) the same type of data (?).

Yes, I'm using the same driver, only changing the port address in the printer
control panel. I'll call our IT person to check on the cable to connect
directly to the printer network port. Thanks.

I have this problem...when I plot...it hangs forever then I get error about plotter configuration cannot be used for one of these reasons: the driver cannot be found, the device cannot be found, or the drive has a problem. The None plot device has been substituted...

You said investigate the issue...can I be an idiot and ask what I should try?
