    Hi,
I want to reduce the width of a rectangle. Is there any way to do it?

Sorry. I should put my question more specifically. I need a simple way, may
be a command, to move the edge of a polyline rectangle so that it can
maintain its rectangular shape after the move. I don't think stretch or
    grip edit can do that.

Stretch command, or grip edit it, like you do other Pline objects.

Maybe the scale command. AutoCad doens't create rectangles as an
intelligent object, it is just four polylines connected together, you can
however select the rectangle, select a grip, hit the space bar until scale
is shown in the command line, hit enter, now dynamically scale the
    rectangle.

Probably not specific enough still. I can't picture what it is you want to
accomplish. Stretch will certainly move a single edge of a rectangle. Its
rectangular shape will also be maintained, depending on how much you move
the edge. A couple others that come to mind are SCALE and MOVE.

Sure it can. With STRETCH, just be sure to get both ends of that side in the crossing window.

With GRIPS, hold the SHIFT button down before select HOTGRIPS and you can select multiple grips to move. (this is a neat trick with locked viewports, it pans)
