How to obtain the datum of system variable "distance"

    hi,
    I want to obtain the datum of "distance"
    system variable .I try to use "getvar" command ,but it does not read the
    datum.
    Who does know it,please tell me.

    How are you using the command? "DISTANCE" returns the value of the last
    value obtained using the "_.DIST" command. If you haven't run "_.DIST"
    and entered two points "DISTANCE" will return 0.0.
