How to make nonsquare hatch pattern?

Discussion in 'AutoCAD' started by Martin Bosnjak, Sep 26, 2004.

  1. I make 2D projects. I want to make nonsquare hatch pattern from
AutoCAD drawing. I tried with some programs like: haci 1.4, hatch
generator, etc. With these programs I need to fit source drawing in a
    1x1 square. I have source
nonsquare drawing and I can't make pattern. Can I make that nonsquare
    pattern and how?

  2. I haven't used anything other than NOTEPAD to
generate hatch patterns, so I can't advise on the use of these
programs. The repeat in a hatch pattern is linear in two directions, and so
by nature they repeat in an orthogonal grid, as opposed to a hexagonal
    one for example.
AFAIK, the only way to disguise this is to design a pattern that
camouflages this fact. You would only be fooling the eye, however.
It would still be a rectangular repeat.
It certainly DOES NOT have to repeat in a SQUARE grid. Making
hatches from scratch is not THAT difficult to learn. If the tools you are
using are holding you back (in a square grid) why not use a simple
word processor? If you get stuck, I'm sure you'll find help here.

Have a look at the visual hatch pattern editor HatchKit available from
    www.cadro.com.au/hatchkit/

HatchKit handles general hatch pattern arrangements - any pattern can
be created with repetitions along arbitary axes. The repetition
arrangement may be any parallelogram or rectangle oriented at any
angle. Many other features make hatch pattern creation or modification
a simple task. The patterns are accurate and cover wide areas without
collapsing into incoherent lines. Patterns are generated without
unnecessary excess lines and may be subsequently edited without having
    to use a text editor.

You can arrange hatch pattern repeats to occur on any diamond
(parallelogram) shaped grid oriented at any angle. The pattern need
    not be rectangular!

Download the HatchKit visual hatch pattern editor from
    www.cadro.com.au/hatchkit/
    to simplify the process.

You don't need NOTEPAD to edit a picture...
