    Hello,

We have a Mitutoyo CMM and we scan the contour of a cam with it
    (SCANPAK software).
We obtain a spline and we transfert it in an iges file for Pro/E.

What is the methode to import and model our cam, please ? (Extrude the
    curve? solid or surface?)

    Thanx.

Some preparation and two steps of feature creation:

Preparation ~ make sure the curve is planar, that is, lying on a plane; also,
whether SCANPAK places it or you do it manually, you should give the curve a
coordinate system, probably at the center of the hole. This is needed to properly
place the curve in the model. Lastly, copy this iges file to the directory where
you will be creating the Pro/e part. When you start Pro/e, make sure to use 'Set
working directory' to select the directory with the iges file in it.

Create a new Pro/e part from a start part which has a system of units consistent
with those in the curve. To import the curve, go to the menu bar and select
'Insert>Data from file'. The iges file should be shown, highlight it and click OK.
For placement, click the default 'Coordinate system' as the locating method. To
create the cam surfaces from the curve, use the curve as a trajectory for a sweep.
Select 'Insert>Sweep>Surface'. Select the curves of the imported spline, then
Done. Select 'Add inner faces', Done for the Attributes. Then sketch a line normal
to the curve plane at the start point of the trajectory. Click the check mark (OK,
Accept) to finish the sketch of the section which will form the outside surface of
the cam. As an optional final step, turn the quilt into a solid. How to do this
depends on the rev of Pro/e you are using. Pre-Wildfire, you do
'Insert>Protrusion', then 'Use quilt' and pick the quilt you just made. With
Wildfire, select the quilt, then pick 'Edit>Solidify' and it's made a solid.
