How much is solidworks?

  1. I doubt it.

    There are other alternatives? Like....? And what do you get?

    Solid Edge with Synchronous Technology when it's released.

    Solid Edge with Synchronous Technology treats non-native CAD data
    EXACTLY like it treats native CAD data.

    Compare this to how SolidWorks treats non-native CAD data... like some
    sort of illegal alien.

    In many cases modifying someone else's SolidWorks model in Solid Edge
    with Synchronous Technology is much faster than modifyng the model
    with SolidWorks itself!

    The links on my blog answer a lot of the questions being asked about
    what Solid Edge with Synchronous Technology can and can't do. One just
    has to be intelligent enough to figure out what isn't stated outright
    in those videos.

    Both Tom Brewer and Matt Lombard have shown that they can't figure it
    out and need to be spoon-fed.

    Here is a clue for both of these idiots:

    Parametric/history data doesn't transfer between SolidWorks and Solid
    Edge with Synchronous Technology.

    So you are saying that there is no cad data it can't read as well as
    it's own?

    I'm calling this Bull Shit!

    There never has and never will be any software that can read ANY and ALL
    data perfectly.

    YOU don't even know when? But hype it anyway as the cure-all for
    everything already?
    Just as you did so many times in the past for so many other things
    you also never used?

    CLUE: It's not a CAD/CAM package or even a CAM package.
    LOL ....

    CLUE: You cannot accurately invent a history that is missing
    nor add parametrics based on such with assured accuracy.
    Not even in banquercadcam <BSEG>.

    HOW IN THE HELL WOULD YOU KNOW. WITH YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF CUT & PASTE
    BULLSHIT. TRUE IT MAY TAKE YOU LONGER THAN SOMEONE ELSE TO DO ANYTHING
    WITH ANY KIND OF SOFTWARE EVEN IF YOU KNEW HOW TO DO IT. HAVE YOU EVER
    MODIFIED SOMEONE ELSES MODELS THAT WERE DONE IN SOLIDWORKS IN SOLIDWORKS
    OR JUST READ IT SOMEWHERE ON SEIMENS WEBSIGHT OR SOME OTHER SALESMANS
    SIGHT THAT THEY SAY IT WOULD BE FASTER TO DO THIS. WHY CANT YOU CRAWL
    INTO A HOLE SOMEWHERE AND THROW ALL YOUR BULLSHIT IN ON TOP TO KEEP YOU
    WARM

    It was mentioned already, but SW can be bought as a student version, as long
    as you can provide proof that you are taking a class in SW. You can get it
    with a 2 yr license for $99, IIRC . It seems to be fully functional, I used
    it for a college class, but will print out your drawings with a "Student
    Version" watermark on the lower left portion of your print. It's more than
    good enough to get your feet wet in SW. Hope this helps........... Mark

    IIRC The "watermark" can not be removed ..... what if such parts
    are later used in an assembly with non-student software?

    If you do decide to go with the student edition and then decide to
    update later to the real version, any of your models/designs done would
    not open in the production release as usable files. You could export as
    a neutral file and import that but you'd loose all features and begin
    with a dumb solid. Also find out who your local VAR (reseller) is and
    see if they can get you a 30 day trial to see if SW will fill your needs
    as well.

    Not entirely sure. I made assemblies at home and opened them up at school
    with an educational version. Opened with no problems, but never printed from
    there. I never tried to work around the watermark cuz I didn't need to.

    In the nitch of 3D mechanical design there is no equal when it comes to
    I certainly believe that.

    There are plenty of opportunities if you know Pro-E... you just have
    to know where to look and how to market yourself. These opportunities
    are usually with larger more established companies that have better
    benefits and pay more.

    I just (very slowly) searched Monster.com ....
    SolidWorks = 1,435 hits
    SolidEdge + "Solid Edge" = 147 hits
    AutoCad = >5,000 hits
    Inventor = 485 hits
    Inventor Cad = 217 hits
    CAD = >5,000 hits
    Unigraphics = 292 hits
    Pro-E + Pro/E + Pro_E + ProE + Pro/Engineer(hard to search for; too many
    possible names) = ~ 4,211 hits (I think)
    Catia = 577 hits
    Computervision + CADDS = 28 (I had to use global on that; the others
    were all US I think).

    Looks like the clear leaders by number of open jobs are PTC &
    AutoCAD. How much each might pay is another matter.
