SolidWorks is no longer worth the money even if it's free if you have
to work with other people designs and modify them or if you have to
    work with non-native data.

Alibre is garbage. Alibre’s CEO Greg Milliken is a liar who promises
and doesn't deliver. Greg Millken is as sleazy as they come.

CoCreate is another story. I believe it's only a matter of time before
CoCreate can do what Solid Edge with Synchronous Technology can do but
    who wants to wait?

If SpaceClaim has the money behind them to hold on and to spend on R&D
I believe SpaceClaim also will eventually be able to do what Solid
Edge with Synchronous Technology can do but again... why should anyone
wait and use inferior products in the mean time? Solid Edge with
Synchronous Technology will be marketed very aggressively by Siemens
in order to take market share from SolidWorks and Autodesk (Inventor).

Don’t like what you see in the mirror, do you. Can’t say I blame you.
I agree you're a lot like Greg Milliken. No doubt this is why you
    can't refute anything I posted.

Get a clue "loser, Alibre is Kmart CAD.

To actually answer the question, it depends on the level you are
purchasing. The standard SW is much cheaper than Professional, for
    example.

And yes, it runs natively on Vista (32 and 64).

The base price is,.. $3,995.00 USD....

    And,...imho,... IT'S NOT WORTH IT!!

There are many other alternatives which are worth looking at!!!!

There is a student version of Solidworks, check out Studica.com. Of
course, you have to be a student to buy the Student Version.

Recall that he did not even know that automotive brackets
were sheet metal parts & thought that fancy swoopy random
deformations were the way to "design" them.
I'd like to see his muffler <VBG>.

Solid Edge with Synchronous Technology when it's released.

Solid Edge with Synchronous Technology treats non-native CAD data
EXACTLY like it treats native CAD data.

Compare this to how SolidWorks treats non-native CAD data... like some
    sort of illegal alien.

In many cases modifying someone else's SolidWorks model in Solid Edge
with Synchronous Technology is much faster than modifyng the model
    with SolidWorks itself!

The links on my blog answer a lot of the questions being asked about
what Solid Edge with Synchronous Technology can and can't do. One just
has to be intelligent enough to figure out what isn't stated outright
    in those videos.

Both Tom Brewer and Matt Lombard have shown that they can't figure it
out and need to be spoon-fed.

Here is a clue for both of these idiots:

Parametric/history data doesn't transfer between SolidWorks and Solid
    Edge with Synchronous Technology.

    WARNING: Clueless BS Zone !!!
    THAT's a clueless lie.
They even had a warning. Which is why it's OPTIONAL.
Once you use it you cannot go back with that part other than
from a backup. This may also apply to any assemblies that
use such parts. Do you know? Nope, *you dont even begin to grasp
    the issues*.

It's all just buzzword city over again.
Not one concern that an *actual* user would ask about.
More proof that you've never been an actual user. Of anything.

    WHAT A SHOCK!!!
The first thing it does is to delete it from even SE parts
    (IF it's used).

And how does he use ANY of it for his *claimed* "CNC programming"?
He cannot even drill a hole with MasterCAM, just heard about
the WCS (common on many, many systems), did not know
what chains or chaining was about (also common as dirt), confuses
views with other things, could not find a fixture offset with both
    hands, .... etc.

It's all BS & hype from ads & the posts of others. Nothing more.
    And never has been.

Yes,.. there are many alternatives... and if he's just doing simple
parts... it's just a matter of research to find out which fit's the
    needs and budget.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_CAD_companies

kuikahi,... I'd strongly suggest that you please do yourself a big,
big,... favor,... take at least month to go over what it is you need
and isolate those tools which are within your budget,.. then,... take
another month too try them out,... go over the pro/cons... make some
parts... chose the tool(s) you like and make sense to YOU!

And,.... DON'T get caught up into what the MAINSTREAM has to offer...
MANY of the other tools can do MUCH of what the mainstream tools
    offer!!!

We can ALL share solid data so don't get trapped with the idea that
you can not communicate with others... that FUD (fear, uncertainty
and doubt) is spread by salespeople.
