Expense question: How much does the basic package of SW cost?

Does anyone have a legal version that they would like to sell?

In the US it costs $3,995 plus maintenance. In Europe and Asia it
costs more or less.

It cannot be resold legally because SW won't generate new registration
codes unless they approve the sale and they only do that if you are
buying a company that has SW as an asset IIRC

There is a student version. Search the internet..

I believe that would make it an illegal version.

 

Jobs got it from Xerox & the MIT X-Windows IIRC.

 

He wasn't the only one to copy the look. Digital Equipment had DEC
Windows in the 80's.

There's lots of free stuff out there for FreeBSD & NetBSD
last I knew too -- probably DECUS stuff too (though I don't
know where their archives are today .. did not recently look).
