Hide System Printers

AutoCAD shows all of our Networked printers twice in the Plot Dialogue box. For example our A3 laser is shown as HP5100.pc3 and as \\kim\HP LaserJet 5100 PCL 6
If the Hide Sysyem Printers box is checked on the options menu, only HP5100.pc3 shows in the Plot Dialogue.

Now, if a drawing was last plotted using a System Printer, then saved. When another user opens it and tries to print, the printer is not found.

In 2004 this was ok as there would be an error message and the default printer would be used.

In 2005, which we switched to today, the drawing hangs, and alt+ctrl+del must be used to end the ACAD session.

Why is this? and how can I fix it?

Obviuusley we can simply uncheck th 'Hide System Printers' box, but there are a number of reasons for not wanting to do this.

Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on the matter...........

  2. A fairly simple lisp routine could be created to run when each file is
opened that looks at the plotters setup for each layout and if it finds a
similiar one that is .pc3 reset the layout to that. Or it could have a
table if names don't match such as
    \\kim\HP LaserJet 5100 PCL 6 = HP5100.pc3

It should be a 1 hour or less project and if you need a programmer you can
post it for bidding on the following site.
