Hidden lines

Discussion in 'AutoCAD' started by Mike Harrison, Mar 3, 2005.

  1. If you have a curved line which is represented by many short straight
    continuous lines, is there any way to make it display as dashed line. Just
    changing the linetype, or changing it into a dashed polyline doesn't work
    because each of the individual short straight lines is not long enough to
    contain any intermittent blank spaces. I guess it is possible to trace over
    it with a dashed spline curve, pick all of the intermediate line ends and
    erase the original lines, but surely there is a better way?

    How did you draw the original series of "short straight continuous lines"?

    If their ends are reasonably congruent (i.e., they meet at the endpoints),
    you could PEDIT them with the Join option to create a continuous Polyline;
    then change the polyline's linetype to whatever style you want (being sure,
    of course, to set its plinegen property to 1 so that the linetype will
    continue around the curve).

    Optionally, you could also Spline or Curve Fit the resulting pline, if that
    suits your needs.

  3. Thank you very much. The plinegen variable was exactly what I needed.
