Thanks to all who answered my previous post...

Need some help, again...I'm a Micro user working in a field office with
    AutoCAD 2002 &
2004...with no manuals available...with cad guys seems to be working on
their own thing...not thing is consistent...

    1. How can I 'COPY' individual lines, arcs...etc from reference files that
is attached into your active file you're
in with out bring in the whole file?

    2. How can I 'LOCK' the elevation (z axis) to a specific Z value as I was
to place everything in a 2D plane?

Thanks in advance and appreciate the response....

Take a look at the refedit command.
Once you select the items you want, you can copy them, then close the
    refedit.
Use the Elevation command to set the Z value.
Everything you draw will have that value.

    From a fellow ustn user:

Acad makes efficient use of the windoze clipboard. I have not used XREF yet,
and using Acad for my purposes, I don't need it. Using the following
procedure, you can import elements, layers and definitions, linetypes, etc.

Try this in A2K2 for a small number of elements. You require data from
Drawing2, and Drawing1 is active, current, whatever you call it. File->Open
to open drawing2, select elements, right click, Copy with Base Point. Select
base point. Click on Window->drawing1. Right click and paste. Anything
selected in drawing 2 is now in drawing1, adapting or creating its
    symbology.

    Endless potential.
