Anticipating the release of SW2007, we upgraded my computer here at
work since it was running Windows 2000. At the same time we decided to
upgrade to SW Office Premium and add COSMOS. For this we decided to go
64Bit and buy a dual core processor. So here is what we ended up
    getting:

    Intel Pentium D 3.2ghz
    4 gigs of ram
    nVidia Quadro FX540
    200 GB Hard Drive
    Dual Layer DVD Bruner
    Windows XP Pro 64 Bit
Dual 19" LCD running dual view set at 1280 x 1024 32-bit color (higest
    available)
SW suggested Graphics Card Driver (passed all tests for 2006)

So after hunting down the correct 64bit drivers for everything, and
then discovering my serial port spaceball wont work with 64bit, we got
it up and running. On my old machine I used to have a slight graphics
problem where when I would click a menu on one of the drop down menus
(e.g.= file > save), a ghost image of that would remain on the screen
untill I clicked a different button, or zoomed out.

Well now on the new machine, the same ghost image appears, but now it
doesnt go away unless I change one of the setting like resolution in
the screen settings. It stays on the screen no matter what application
    is running.

See the attached image, does anyone have any ideas?

    Mike,

    Simple,,,,immature drivers and immature program.

I takes Nvidia a while to get stuff right. They've had what,,,close to a
hundred drivers in the past 8-10 years.

Thanks for the helpful reply, but it still didnt solve the problem. Im
looking more for someone that has encountered this problem, and was
    able to solve it.

Is there a newer graphics driver than the one you are using? I am
running xp64 at home and I ran into some graphics issues - not exactly
like what you are having, but close. Each time a new graphics driver
comes out, I grab it and my issues are less than before. It's never
    perfect, but gradually getting better.

I am using a geforce card, though. I can't afford the good stuff.

are you running 81.67 or 84.26? according to the release notes these 2 are
first for dual core so maybe a bug...
also in which mode do you have the 2 monitors? dual or span? possibly if you
change to the other the bug is not present?
how about if you change the physical order of the LCD does the ghost follow
the screen? if so may be there is a problem with that...or the cable has a
    bent pin or such?...
finally maybe the card has a memory problem? tried swapping it for
another?for the driver you have no unusual setting in the control panel like
disabled backbuffer or something?or a refresh rate not compatible with the
    LCD?

I was able to solve it by using the 6.14.10.7756 driver direct from the
Solidworks site. The driver was giving me issues when I had tried it
before, but I will say that its very important to completely uninstall
all video drivers before installing a new one.

Anyways, thats fixed, now just have to figure out why when I try to
open a drawing, SW crashes on me! Might have to do a reinstall. Guess
this is the last time I let an IT guy set up my computer!

possibly cos SW is using dual core for opening the dwg and you have a too
    old driver with 77.56?

That would make sense, but this is the driver recomended from SW on the
    site.

true but there is no mention of dual core - only 64 bit suitability...
I keep asking SW for details of this but to no avail.
I am not sure I would go so far as a reinstall before trying 81.26 which I
    see are officially tested....
any way it is just a hunch/suggestion you best do as you see fit )

I tried three different drivers, all with no luck. Whats strange is
when I open an assembly, then right click on a solid to open it, it
crashes. When I open the individual parts, then open the assembly, it
doesnt crash. Im really thinking its a dual core issue. So to get
some work done, im going to load 32bit SW and see if I can get some
    work done.

I have submitted the issue, so I have to wait for a response.
