graphics card issues?

I've just bought a new PC, mainly for rendering, but also some
modelling (nvidia 6800 graphics card). I'm having a few problems with
the screen display of Solidworks. When I do a render on screen the
outlines/colours are jagged and when dimensioning in a sketch the
dimension values look ragged. I'm assuming that this is a graphics card
issue. Has anyone else had these kinds of problems with this card?
Could you let me know of any features that you disabled or did you try
    forceware form guru3d.com?

    Thanks.

    hey ho will,
Could be the new card is faulty - bad luck but maybe you can return it- or
just not seated properly in the slot.
Do you have any problems in other applications or just SW? sounds like
something to do with zbuffer utilisation...
BTW which version and sp of SW are you using?and which nvidia
driver?sometimes there are issues within SW itself or with a particular
    driver.
I presume you are using PW for rendering...
Do you realise you can use a bit of software called 'rivatuner' for the 6800
AGP versions to identify them as a quadro FX4000 and it will run quadro
drivers and function as a FX complete with 'unified back buffer' ?- maybe
    your issue
I started using a 6800GS recently in this way when my old Quadro750 died a
lingering death and it seems ok.
You will find info about the mod under the rivatuner forum at guru.
I really recommend you use a Quadro card for SW instead of one intended for
gaming though because they are optimised for CAD purposes and so are the
Quadro drivers... and further more SW work in with nvidia for development
purposes and test and certify particular drivers as suitable for SW use.
Possibly you should return the card and get even something like a FX 500 or
540 and it would be more assured of working properly with SW.

BTW you do have anti aliasing turned on for your renders? without that you
will get staircasing of outlines in renders.
....and you are not using the 3d option in SW for showing dimensions which
gives them a ragged fuzzy appearance?..

    Hi,

Thanks for the 3D sketch option point... that was causing me a few
problems. The driver version is the Nvidia 7.7.7.4. (if thats the info
you require). I have changed a few dimension settings and monitor
display settings and the display seems slightly better. I might try the
rivatuner software though if it gives me any more problems.

    cheers.

    ok pleased things improved.
In future - it pays to give details of your set up when asking questions
    because
sometimes there are known issues with a SW sp or driver.
You might try changing the nvidia driver to a later one if you think there
are specific problems with the display for SW.
Guru will give you feedback as to which ones work best with gaming - not
necessarily an indicator for SW though.Generally it is better to go for the
official ones on the nvidia site.
If you try rivatuner be sure to read thoroughly about it at the guru forum
    first.
