Graficcard for older ACAD 12?

Discussion in 'AutoCAD' started by Michael Schrading, Oct 12, 2005.

  1. Hi.

I hope that isn't offtopic but I'm looking for graficcards which are able to work for an older ACAD release 12.
My question is: which cards are working with this?

If offtopic than please for the name of the newsgroupe. Thankyou!

I would be surprised to learn that autocad 12 works with current
operating systems. If my memory serves me correctly, Autocad 12 uses
special memory management that is not likely to work with XP which would
trigger a protection error. If it does work at all, ATI lower end cards,
like the old 7000 are likely to be your best bet since they are most
similar in behavior to older dos cards.
HOWEVER if you are building a computer from scratch, I advise you not
to use Intel if you are running dos based graphics software. We use a
proprietary engineering analysis program that is dos based, and we have
both INTEL and AMD machines. The INTEL chipsets do not behave well
running some dos software, including ours, with random color change
issues (We installed video cards to work around the issue without
success, while the AMD's work perfectly with onboard or added cards.) Of
    course I haven't tested with Autocad 12.
If your goal is to use a free copy of cad that you have sitting around
rather than paying for a new copy, save the aggravation and use
ProgecadLT, which is free and works with virtually any current computer
and closely emulates Autocad, including 2006 file compatibility,
although it doesn't have the Autocad rock solid stability so save
    frequently.

  3. Thank you. For that.

I found many older cards with driver for ACAD 12.
