To start, I open a part or assembly and name it. I type the name, into the
properties box under "Title", this ensures that the title of the drawing
matches the name of the part or assembly as this is linked in the drawing
    title.
I then RC in explorer, to rename this file, ( but I don't), and Ctrl C to
    copy exactly, the file name.

I have a access database that will generate a drawing number, according to
set parameters being entered. these consists of either part, assembly,
    drawing, department, type, etc..

I Ctrl V the file name into the Access description window. (This have no
    effect to the number Generated).

I Ctrl C the number generated..
I then open the part or assembly, then open the properties box and Ctrl V
this number into the "Number" box.

I then check in the part or assembly into PDMWorks.
From PDMWorks I then generate a report and save it as a CSV file.
I the import this file into a Excel spreadsheet and get a file list, which I
filter to get a drawing document list.
This I then print out to put in a hard copy project folder.
This enables the different departments to look though the list to see the
drawings that are available for manufacture.
    PHEW!
Now if I need to add another drawing !! Ahhhhhh!
Is there anyway to simplify this with macros or OLE ???

  2. It's funny how many employers will spend $$$ on employees doing this
type of thing but can't justify hiring a programmer to shorten the
cycle. I know, I know, it's hard to educate the boss...

You should be able to automate the whole thing, esp. if it's a
repetitive thing. I could program it in VB, but not for free. It
might take a day or two.
