This is an article I posted in the Autodesk newsgroup. There I got an
"official" response, which I appreciate, but which really didn't aznswer the
    question for my needs:

Is anyone here using or aware of a third-party plug-in to export AutoCad to
Gerber and Excellon formats for PCB manufacture? I am interested in plug-ins
with or without much in the way of PCB design wizardry.

I am on 2004DX, so I don't know whether old things like "Autopads" are
    useable - or any good.

    Thanks in advance,

    Greg Faris

  2. you will maybe find CadMover helpful for converting e.g. DXF/DWG to
    Gerber: http://www.kandusoftware.com
