Is there any definitive way to align the floor and base of the model so
that is doesn't (randomly) appear as floating when rendering. The base
of the model is already aligned with the top plane. Has this feature
    been improved with 2006?

No. It still doesn't work very well.

hi parel. You're here as well!... sometimes that doesnt work. The floor
randomly moves to above/below the model even if it is set to the
    correct plane with 0mm offset.

Unchecking the "resize automatically" option sometimes helps with this.
SW/PW seems to have a mind of its own when it comes to floor (room)
    seetings sometimes.
