flexlm not releasing licenses

We are having a problem with our FlexLM and AutoCAD 2004.
We currently have 5 licenses deployed by our server, and are constantly hitting the limit.
When I check the Flex Manager, I notice that some of the licenses are logged as in use, but I know that the user is not accessing AutoCAD. Some of the licenses have been held by flex for a couple of days.
Re-starting the Flex service clears the problem, but I would rather Flex sorts it it's self. Has anyone had a similar problem that they could provide some guidance.

    Thanks.

You can use lmutil to remove the license (command lmremove)...I have being
doing this when experiencing this problem.
I have also read that you can create an options files and set a timeout
variable that releases licenses if inactive for a certain period of time.

  3. The timeout function can give you quite many more free licenses totally. We
have more than houndreds of users. With the timeout function the usage of
the licenses goes down 10-20 %. And the users don't have to bother about
closing AutoCAD when they goes for a meeting or something else.

Since you have experience with this, can you tell me what happens when a
user leaves AutoCAD open and goes to a meeting longer than the timeout
    limit. Does it close AutoCAD?
Does it just reclaim the license since it's unused while AutoCAD remains
open? And then when the user comes back, it finds a license again with
    AutoCAD open the whole time?

  5. It does not close AutoCAD. If there is available licenses it takes one of
them. If not it gives the user ability to save the drawings that are open.

You can set the timeout to as low as 15 minutes. Often people can work with
the PC and use Office or some other application for a long time without
tuchng AutoCAD and then the license is returned to the server after 15
    minutes.

What happens if the station is inactive because the user is away from their
desk, i.e. they would not be there to see a prompt for saving their
drawings? I would like to use this for the issue that reubencooke asked
about, but I don't want to foul up someone's drawings if they've left them
open and went to a long lunch (though I've told them many times not to do
    this!).
    Thanks for your time.

They can still save their work and exit... but that's all they can do.
