What is the best way to find an IP address?
What I have tried is to ping our various IP addresses, if no response comes
back I plug in the plotter and ping again. This has not worked. I am not
sure if I have a complete list of IP address.

What problem are you trying to solve? (And what's the plotter for?!?)

I would guess he's trying to find the IP address of a device "plugged into
the network" (interesting wording from Bob...)???
I recommend going to the device itself (i.e. plotter/printer) and using the
console of the device to find this info

Try "net view" at the XP command prompt ("net help view" for syntax).

Trying to connect a 650c plotter into our network with a HP jetdirect 170x.
We do not know the IP address.

  7. Bob,

the JetDirect is managed through a web interface. Read the documentation. If
you can't find it, then search on HP web site. The web interface in the
device will let you see/change the IP cpnfiguration.

Is the JetDirect card connected via a managed switch?

I do not know. I don't usually do this and am fumbling around.

Apparently it is as simple as pressing the test button on the jetdirect.
Unfortunately this is an old plotter with a dried up ink cartridge.
