Has anybody found out anything new about ACAD 2005 sending the full file path to the plotter?

It could be that the printer driver is doing this so the only way to fix it is to get HP to fix their drivers (I'm assuming it is HP you are talking about). I think HP farms out their driver development to offshore companies which adds to the difficulty.

If you have access to different drivers you could try that. For example different versions of Microsoft vs HP drivers.

If the driver is to blame then another solution is to fix the plot after it is created with a custom print spooler application. It would process the file prior to sending it to the printer and strip out the path. That is how we used to get around all of the HP/AutoCAD problems with DesignJet plotters up to and including AutoCAD 14.

HP's plot files are fairly simple to understand (they publish a spec for HPGL/2) so the application is fairly easy to create.

  3. Autodesk listened to one group of users (wanting to do queue management on
their computer systems) and forgot another group (the DesignJet users who
want to do queue management on the front panel of their plotter). They asked
HP to fix this by modifying their drivers. The better solution would be that
Autodesk would add the option to enable/disable the long name (incl. path)
in AutoCAD; very simple to realize imho.

My new version of GoPlot has that option (http://members.lycos.nl/goplot).
