This happened three times in one year and may happen more and more times to anyone who use AutoCAD and have a custom screen saver... Friend of mine (he worked for our company some time) called me few days ago and asked me for help with his script file problem. He complained that when he double clicked the script file (SCR extension file), the default editor, the notepad, did not open the script file, in addition to file icon he was frustrated moreJ. As we all know, some, maybe most, of screen savers use the same file extension as AutoCAD script file (SCR). After the screen saver installation, the screen saver application redefines the SCR file type in the registry and SCR file no longer becomes associated with notepad on open, print etc. events. So I provide him (my friend), long way of step to step SCR file type re-association to open, print etc. events trough explorer "Folder Option" menu. The same problem I had noticed with PLT and PAT file types. For me it is not a big deal; any file extensions I can redefine in few seconds. However for middle AutoCAD, and in general, computer users, this can be a real problem. I can create my own windows based utility to redefine a file type in the registry and I think would be a good idea to have this kind of tools available inside AutoCAD, so other, "bad", people will not be able to "steal" AutoCAD file types. Here is an idea: Why don't license the file extension, the file type. Say DWG, SCR, PAT etc.
