I must have changed a setting by accident but cannot figure out which
    one:
Now when I try to extend or trim to a line, it has to cross the axis or
it will not trim or extend.
    Anyone know what happened?
    example:
    ------

    |
    |

these lines will not extend, these entities are on the same elevation.

    Thanks much
    Happy New Year!

EDGEMODE should be set to 1
Or you can use the EXTEND command to change it
    Command: ex
    EXTEND
    Current settings: Projection=UCS, Edge=None
    Select boundary edges ...
    Select objects or <select all>: 1 found
    Select objects:
Select object to extend or shift-select to trim or
    [Fence/Crossing/Project/Edge/Undo]: e
Enter an implied edge extension mode [Extend/No extend] <No extend>: e
