Hi and happy New Year to all

Has anyone succedeed in exporting SW06 settings into SW09?

I mean, creating the *.sldreg file from sw06, and importing it on another
machine with SW09 to get the same toolbars arrangement, default models and
    so on?

Is there any risk to badly brake the SW09 install?
    (XP Pro on both machines)

    TIA

They have changed SW and the registry quite a bit since 2006. I would
create a backup of the 2009 settings and then try the 2006 settings.

Considering statements made on another forum about how SW has changed
Option settings the affect assembly performance between releases I would
try this and then go over the results carefully.

You might try asking on as there are a lot of the
good posters from here now over there.

Is there something special to do before sending my question to the group?
    I get:
    "
We're writing to let you know that the group that you tried to contact
(SWcad) either doesn't exist, or you don't have permission to post to it.
There are a few possible reasons why this happened:
    * You might have spelled or formatted the group name incorrectly.
    * The owner of the group removed this group, so there's nobody there to
    contact.
    * You may need to join the group before being allowed to post.
    * This group may not be open to posting.

SWCad is a serious SW site. It is also a mailing list. It is pretty
open, not like Eng-Tips, but the rules are kept. I use it for serious
stuff and mostly vent or help out here.

I hear you Wayne. It is getting to be a pain to have to do this with
every release. It isn't just the settings, there are new files and
folder and locations that change in subtle ways. When you are on a
network and share these files every release is a major learning experience.

But sometimes it is wise to start from scratch and not assume anything.

In that case, i need to check things without fussing about something I can't
    handle. No time to lose.

All the users will be taking a class "SW06 to SW09" next june. We'll learn
what we need, but I want to prepare ahead. We'll switch next.

Oh, and BTW, I tried (importing '06 settings) and it worked fine. Only
opened an assy and a few parts, will be back on later...

I obviously did not make it clear. I want to try the new functions (sheet
metal wrap, magnif glass, neg dims, ...), and see how some assys import
right now. I 'll have 5 months to try the rest. We are staying on '06 until
    june.

Your insistance will certainly make me put more attention into the new
interface. But I am afraid (and almost sure) some people in my group will
    not use it.

My experience is that old time users barely use new features, even with all
the effort we put in classes (3 days for the "ones that need more"). What we
ask them is to be product engineers, not SW specialists.

    Thanks for your attention.

How can they be that without best using their tools?
