Save As ACIS (*.sat) and click on the Options button and specify ver 7.

Are you trying to save a drawing, or save a model? If the former, you
can simply SaveAs a .DWG or .DXF (be sure to check the Options in the
dialog box). If the latter, then the advice about ACIS export is valid,
but also there is a a free Add-In that you can find simply by doing a
Net search for Dxf3DExport. If you can't find it, let me know and I'll
post it on my Web site.

  5. I have found Dxf3DExport and created a folder in the SolidWorks folder in
Program Files called Apps, and put in the Dxf3DExport.dll file, as
instructed, but the 3D DXF option is not available, either as an "add-in",
or as a "save as" option. The creators of Dxf3DExport appear to have only
tested this in SW 2004 - has anyone managed to get it working in SW 2006 SP
    3.1 / XP SP2 ?

  6. I have got Dxf3DExport to appear as a toolbar (I was expecting it to be a
"save as" option, but this seems way out of its league) - unfortunately all
it does is create a mesh of the part, which is not much help except as a
very basic viewer system - has anyone had any success in creating proper 3D
dxf files from SolidWorks that will open in AutoCAD ?

Dxf3DExport doesn't appear as an Add-In -- it appears as a new pulldown
menu in both Part and Assembly files. It will likely appear just to the
right of the Tools pulldown menu. It does NOT appear as a pulldown menu
in Drawing files, simply because Drawings are only 2D by definition.
