examine polyline segments

How do I step through polyline segments to examine each segment's start
width, end width, start point, end point? How do I know how many segments
there are? Are LWpoly and Polylines processed the same other than Z value?
I'm going to explode some polylines in AutoCAD 2000 and need to trace the
outline of the segments that have same or varying widths. I already have
working code to trace a segment.

    thanks

Thanks. I sometimes draw a blank. Got it working.

I am puzzled though. There seems to be one extra segment following the last
vertex. Is it really there? I look at the properties in AutoCAD and I see
start and end width following the last vertex. The polyline isn't closed.
    Does that make a difference?

not positive but I think those are there for the benefit of that last
segment that *would* be there if you closed it.
