I am getting an error when I try to open an assembly. It says:

"SolidWorks encountered an error opening the document.
Please contact your local SolidWorks support representative for help in
    troubleshooting this problem."

Does anyone know what could cause this problem and how to fix it?

    Thanks,

You haven't called your VAR's help desk recently and there is an
internal timer in SW that makes sure you do so.

Just kidding. If you are on SW2005 use RX to capture the problem and
send it in to your var.

It doesn't by chance have an Excel design table in it, and you have office
    97?

I had this happen to me a couple of times yesterday!!!!@#$!@#$!@#$ after
crashing out of an assembly drawing.

To resolve the problem I opened each part and sub assembly and hit "CTRL
    Q" and re saved.

This solved the problem, luckily the main assembly only had 20 or so
parts. The "update command" in SolidWorks office Task scheduler may well
be a better option on a larger assembly -- but I haven't tested that theory.

The problem was, after the error came up and clicking the OK button, I would
be able to see the part, but not the FeatureManager. Hitting the rebuild
button brought up the FeatureManager, but then the geometry all disappears.
I could still see the shadow, but all the parts were gone. After contacting
my technical support guy, we determined that opening an assembly with the
"Lightweight" option checked was causing this problem. He thinks it's a bug
with the program and is going to submit it to SolidWorks. I don't know what
exactly is going on in the assembly that is causing it to have a problem
when opening, but it was only happening in this particular assembly. I
could open smaller assemblies with no problem. After clearing the checkbox,
    all was fine.

Has anyone else had this problem or did I discover a new bug?
