Error messages with DGN files

Discussion in 'Microstation' started by Frank Sinclair, Oct 20, 2003.

  1. I have a problem with opening some DGN files. I get an error message stating
that the file format is unrecognised, however other files in the same folder
are ok. I don't believe that they are corrupt, does anybody know if there
are any file utilities or anything that can look at files, or fix corrupt
    files.
There is a huge amount of work at stake here, any help would be much
    appreciated.
I did rebuild my machine (after backing up) but surely this should not be a
    problem.

    Many thanks

  2. Hello Frank,

If you are using Microstation 95, SE or v7 you can use EDG,
    see the administrator quide.

Before you are using EDG, always make a backup!!!!

    some usefull EDG commands
    verify whole / none
    patch wft/a w
    patch wid/a w
    repair whole

Open the design file in EDG:
use the next command first to check if the design file is corrupt:
    v w/n

If you are getting errors you can do the next
    p wtf/a w
    p wid/a w
    rw

to check is the design file is repaired.
    v w/n

    If you have still error
you could also delete some elements
    v w
    del

if the element is a complex element
    v w
    header
    del

to step through a file you can use <return>
