can anybody explain to me why a previously authorised autocad woul suddenly request an authourisation code. "error [4]" I cannot accurately comment on the circumstances surrounding the event as it is co workers of mine who are having the difficulties. Operating systems are win2000 and xp pro.

while autodesk will respond within 24 hours with a new code via. email this is still a big amount of down time. what is the quickest way to resolve the issue? what can i do to ensure against future failures?

stand alone lisences are in place and this problem has occured at leat 10 times. (10 days down time!)

    Many thanks.

It means the license file was deleted. Read the FAQ about what changes to
your PC may cause your license to break:
    http://www.autodesk.com/activation

Typical examples would be reformatting your hard disk and reinstalling the
OS, or restoring a partition image from a backup that doesn't have the
    license file in it.

If this is a training lab or other situation where frequent restores are
required, the network license may be a better fit for you. If you indicate
which version of AutoCAD it is, I can tell you where the license file is
    located.
