I have around 200,000 entities in my drawings. I erased unwanted objects (approximate 150,000 nos.) to make the drawing faster. But still the drawing works in the same speed and when i audit the drawing it shows all the erased objects. In order to take effect, I need to close the drawing and open it again...

    My question is...

"Is there any way to permanantly erase objects from the working drawing, without reopening it ??"

When you erase objects, you need to quick save, close your session and open the dwg again. When you do, the erase objects will be gone. Also, have you purged? If none of this affects the speed of opening the dwg, try wblocking the dwg to a different name.

Walt is right. To expand, Acad keeps everything until the session
closes. For one reason, so you can undo. Upon quick saving (with
isavepercent at 0) the database is updated and all that stuff goes away.

The best way to get it over with is to click load on the file menu and
pick the current drawing. It will ask you to save and immediately
    reload.

  4. Turn Undo off before performing the erase, then turn it back on after the
    operation is done.
