ENVELOPES:Ability to convert a component to an envelope

I really wish there was a way to toggle a component in an assembly
from part to envelope.

I've tried. Brought all my SW experience and API knowledge to bear on
this. Have not foud a way.

Best you can do is bring in a new envelope and replace references.

 

As do I.
I am using them more and more as a foundation for much more
complicated assemblies. I just wish I had the flexibility to change
my mind later on.

Ditto to everybody.

However, I'm finding that more and more often I want to be able to see my
subassembly skeleton parts in higher level assemblies. So, I've all but
stopped using envelopes for skeletons. I assign a zero mass, exclude it
from the BOM, and make sure they're only visible where I need them to be.
It's a little more to manage, but at least I can mate to a subassembly
skeleton's sketch entities when I need to.

 

For me the ability to change from one to the other in different
configs would be important so that we can toggle from General
Arrangement to our product in one assembly.
