To answer your question, nobody on this NG will say anything about prgrams
which are intended to defeat the protection of encrypted files -- you will
need to look elsewhere to find out if any such thing exists.

This has been discussed before in the managers NG, with respect to
programming and copyrights. The company should have the source code for any
programs it owns, securely stored. And by copyright law, it owns any
programs that were written by an employee as part of his job, using company
facilities (such as the computer and the Acad license).

Conversely, the company should not be using any programs that it doesn't own
or have an explicit license to use. If the past employee had written these
things entirely on his own, not as your employee, and held the copyright to
them, you would be infringing on his ownership by attempting to
    reverse-engineer or decrypt them.

For whatever it's worth, I hope your company learns from this episode to
establish a very clear understanding with present and future employees on
ownership of programming customizations, and proper handling of source code.
If you're going to use a compiled or encrypted home-made program, you need
to be very serious about securing the source.
