ECP vs EPP for plotter

I use Autocad (R2000) with an Encad Cadjet2 plotter. My system is a P3,
933MHz with 512MB RAM and running Win98SE. The parallel port is set to
    EPP mode.

I have noticed that whenever I plot to the Cadjet2 I initially get a
"Error printing to LPT1:, Retry etc." message. When I click "Retry" the
plot prints fine. Is there any way to get rid of the initial error
message? I have called Encad tech support and they have been very vague.
They suggested changing from EPP to ECP, which didn't work at all (no
plot went through) and basically had no other suggestions. They did have
one comment - namely that some other printer may be interfering with the
port. I do have a Lexmark connected to that port and I some people have
said that Lexmark printer drivers are notoriously bad. Could that be the
    problem?

    TIA,
    -GHB

  2. configure to SPP (= Standard Parallel Port) or Normal (which is the
    same).

for testing remove all dongles (if existent) from the desired port.
