dwgThumbNail crashes AutoCAD on some files

We have recently switched over to using dwgThumbNail (Jun 15,2001 issue) from another thumbnail viewer. Now we are finding dwgThumbNail to be unstable for some dwg files. We get an "object invoked has disconnected from its clients" error. We are using 2004. We can fix the problem dwg files by simply loading them and resaving the file, but that hardly does much for an AutoCAD session vanishing into thin air. Is this an known issue and what is the solution?

I don't believe the dwgThumbNail control supports anything above a 2000/2002
    file format.

We are using it now with 2004. It is only the rare file that causes a problem.
