dimension does not show up in layout

Discussion in 'AutoCAD' started by Rentian Xiong, Apr 9, 2005.

  1. Hi, I had a very annoying problem with AutoCAD 2002. I drew a 3D solid, used
solview and soldraw command to project to 2D views. Then I dimensioned each
view on the corresponding DIM layer. But strangely those dimensions do not
show up on the screen. However if I use plot preview, I can see all the
dimensioning I made. Does anybody know why and is there any settings that I
    should change? Thanks a lot!

This is probably a long shot but what the heck. What colors are your model
space and paperspace backgrounds? What color is the dimension layer? What
is its plot color as defined by the ctb or stb? And finally, what color is
    the plot preview background?

The colours are your preference. The dimension layer colour follows your
    company standards.

Thanks for your irrelevant words of wisdom. Why must people in this forum
insist on offering completely useless information that is of no help to the
original poster, and instead, disqualify someone who IS trying to help?

What I was getting at was that if he could not see his dims in the model but
could see them in a plot preview, then perhaps the dimension color was
changed (perhaps inadvertently) to that of, or something close to, the
    background making them invisible.

Sometimes in 3D, dimensioning can be tricky. Give your enities of your
dimensions a thickness. By default dimesions have no Z axis.

Check your blood pressure buddy. I did no such thing. I was under the
impression that you were asking what our colour preferences were. If a
little mis-communication can set you off I believe it is time to go home and
    relax.
That is very plausible, I have tried to recreate the circumstances and can
not replicate it. Unless there is a way to freeze a layer in model space
and thaw it in a view port I can't suggest anything.

I don't have a problem with my blood pressure. You , however, have some
difficulty answering a simple question such as what colors you are using.
Whatever color you want it to be. Oh, ok. I got it now.
